Host Question: What is a sports nutrition degree program?

Guest Answer: Don’t know that a degree would be actual or only sports nutrition. There are some places that have more of an emphasis on sports nutrition especially if they have an area with a lot of sports teams that are looking for dietitians or nutritionists on their staff to work with their professional or semi professional athletes.

Guest Answer: A lot of sports facilities even have dietitians or nutritionists on staff or even youth athletes kind of training and just setting good eating habits at an early age and what does your eating habits look like or a good outcome athletically in your performance and how those two tie together.

Guest Answer: Sports dietitian is a dietitian working particularly with athletes or people kind of in the middle of the age cycle. So you’re not working pediatrics. You’re not working with the elderly population, and you’re not working with anyone really with any sort of chronic disease typically. You’re looking at the best way ability to athletes based on their specific performance needs. And in order to become a certified sports dietitian, you have to show a certain amount of hours worked with this population and then sit for an exam and then maintain that credential by continuing to sit for the exam every so many years.

Guest Answer: Sports nutrition degree program would be more tailored for athletes, somebody who wants to work really closely with elite athletes and being able to help them fuel their body as well, or maybe even not elite athletes but like high school athletes, you know, anybody that needs that x tailored nutrition program, that’s what you would get.
