Host Question: What are food science and nutrition degree programs? What does that mean and what types of jobs would that possibly lead to?

Guest Answer: Food science and nutrition science degree are going to be kind of mirroring these two areas of nutrition. So you’re gonna spend a lot of time learning about the properties of foods and the way we can manipulate these foods and these components to foods to change the way that they either present in our bodies or in the environment. And then you’re also learning on the nutrition side of things the way that these foods, perhaps that you’re manipulating, what the implications are for our bodies once we consume them. This type of program would be really great if you kind of want to stay general and you don’t know whether perhaps you want to be working on the counseling side of things with people or if you want to be working more with companies.

Guest Answer: Food science degree program, you’re looking at the science of food. The chemical components of food, what nutrition they have to offer. You’re probably working in different food labs to get your degree, learning how to cook things, like how does temperature affect things and learning how to use that in more of a hands on food setting.
