Host Question: What factors are important when choosing a nutrition science program besides just if it’s accredited or not? What matters or maybe distinguishes one from another when someone is trying to choose the best program for them?
Guest Answer: If you have lots of opportunities academically or willing to move to a different school or take courses online, I think then you can really kind of look and see what schools focus more on my desired area of interest going forward. Some universities colleges may have more of a sports science focus, and you can get a little more hands on information and have that networking ability going through a school that advertises that otherwise any university that’s offering a nutrition science degree is gonna give you the bare minimum of what you’re going to need, and you’re gonna get out of it what you put into it going forward.
Guest Answer: When you’re choosing a place to get your nutrition science degree from, obviously, look for ones that are accredited, look for what specific programs they have to offer, because not everywhere will offer one. My personal advice is to try and go either to or the campus, specifically, like, the department that you would be working in, meet the faculty there. Just being able to see it firsthand is super helpful. And then looking into what types of internship or research opportunities they might have, Do you wanna do like an online or in person or dual type of program setup if they have different certifications that you might be interested after you get your degree or And then just like general stuff, you know, do you like the location? What what do they have to offer there? What other extracurriculars and safety and activities they have there.
Guest Answer: Using the best program would kinda be based on if you have an idea of what you wanna go into. So especially if you are trying to go into that dietetics route, that’s a pretty defining feature, and you want to make sure that you find a program that does have those required coursework to go into dietetics.
Guest Answer: If you’re kind of more general, not really sure if you want to go into food science, nutrition science or if you are interested in getting your dietetics program, then you’d wanna explore the programs that maybe are affiliated with other agencies that you’re interested in. So especially schools that are affiliated with a medical school typically have really great opportunities for getting exposure to the clinical side of things. Definitely just kind of looking at the program as a whole, kind of getting a sense of where you’re being drawn to, and then seeing if those schools or institutions do come out with research in that particular field that you’re looking for.
