Host Question: Can you do a nutrition science degree program online? And if so, Are there any advantages or disadvantages specific to this type of education or this eventual line of work that studying this material online would bring?
Guest Answer: I would imagine there are a lot more programs now online.
Guest Answer: I did my master’s degree online, so you know, I think the advantage is that you have a lot more flexibility. If you’re not able to go somewhere in person and just do the classes, the flexibility is nice. So you might not have as much group interaction, but you can kind of do it at your own pace.
Guest Answer: In terms of getting a nutrition degree online, I think post COVID, there’s lots of options. And if that’s an option that appeals to you because of where you live geographically because of financial constraints, because you’re working another job while you’re seeking your degree. I don’t know that nutrition and getting a nutrition degree online is any less than going to a university in person environment for that level, if that’s something that you’re more comfortable doing.
Guest Answer: It certainly can do a nutrition science degree online. I would say some advantages are that this is kind of where we’re seeing healthcare go in general, even working in a hospital myself, a lot of my patients that I see are still seen online and on the computer. So this is a platform that’s definitely going to be in our future, and we’re not getting rid of. You’re kind of getting yourself experience working in that regard. In terms of this exact degree too, the only disadvantages I would say are that there are a lot of labs typically. So, especially, we’re talking about those core science classes, even, you know, organic chemistry or biochemistry, they almost always have a lab component So that’s kind of hard to recreate on an online platform.
Guest Answer: An online degree program may not be able to recreate that or the online degree program may be more of a hybrid program that does require you to come in for those lab level courses.
